    Welcome to the City of Otsego! We are happy you have chosen to move to our community and wish to make you aware of what Otsego has to offer. This guide will make it easier for you to discover and contact the appropriate information sources for your needs.
    The staff of the City of Otsego is here to serve your needs. Please do not hesitate to visit or call City Hall if you have any problems or questions.
    This packet includes basic information about city ordinances, services, permits, and schedules. In particular, we want to point out the significance of the ordinances. Our "community rules" are very important, as they provide the means to maintain our desired quality of life.

    Also included are phone numbers for emergency services, city officials, school officials, and the community education and recreation office.

LEAVE PICK-UP - November 4, 2016

Leave Pick-Up extended Nov. 14-18, 2016.
Allegan and Farmer Streets will be picked up on Monday Nov. 14, 2016.
Once final sweep will be made during this time.

FARMER STREET RESIDENTS ONLY: The first collection date will be Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016 and final pick-up will be Nov. 14, 2016.

You may take your leaves to the Transfer Station free of charge.

FREE RECYCLING EVENT - October 22, 2016

The Public Works Department will be picking up leaves between October 24, 2016, and November 11, 2016. Please do not place any leaves in the streets, before October 22, 2016. Leaves will be picked up twice during the three week period. Please plan accordingly.

Allegan Street residents only - continue to place leaves in the curb lawn. Please do not place leaves near trees or poles, for easier access. Collection dates will be Monday, October 24, 2016, and November 7, 2016, for Allegan Street only.

Farmer Street residents only - collection dates will be Monday, October 24, 2016, qnd November 7, 2016 - please rake leaves into the street no earlier than the Sunday before pick up.

Please refrain from putting leaves in the road before October 22th.

Loose leaves will no longer be picked up after your street has been picked-up twice. For safety purposes - do not place leaves in the street after the second pick up. Leaves may be taken to the city's transfer station located off of Helen Ave. Free of charge. The transfer station is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. (posted 10/5/16)

How You Can Get An Absentee Ballot? Absentee Ballots
(posted 10/03/16) Voters who qualify may choose to cast an absentee ballot. As a registered voter, you may obtain an absentee ballot if you are:

  • Age 60 or older.
  • Physically unable to attend the polls without the assistance of another.
  • Expecting to be absent from the community in which you are registered for the entire time the polls will be open on Election Day.
  • In jail awaiting arraignment or trial.
  • Unable to attend the polls due to religious reasons.
  • Appointed to work as an election inspector in a precinct outside of your precinct of residence.

Those who wish to receive an absentee ballot by mail must submit the application by 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5. CALL CITY HALL OR OBTAIN YOUR ABSENT VOTER APPLICATION on line. 692-3391. We are anticipating long lines and longer than normal waiting times. If you have questions, please contact the City Clerk.

The City of Otsego was fortunate enough to be awarded $375,000 in funding assistance for the reconstruction of South Farmer Street. This funding is made available through Michigan Department of Transportation Small Urban Program. The reconstruction project includes replacement of water main, sanitary sewer main, storm sewer and sidewalks, besides the street surface from Orleans to Hammond. This project is scheduled to be completed the second week of October. With this total reconstruction and replacement of all utilities, detours are available on Fair and Kalamazoo Streets.
