The Otsego Police Department welcomes you.  We are a 24/7 department staffed by 7 sworn officers.  The on-duty officer may be contacted anytime by dialing (269) 692-6111.  Our office hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

Police Equipment

Our department is fortunate to have a wide range of technology and equipment at our disposal.

All of our patrol vehicles have full feature laptops to allow us to have access to as much information at our fingertips as possible. Our vehicles have in-car cameras with body mics which greatly assist in documenting incidents. Although we hope to never have to use them we now have bean bag shotguns and rifles installed in our patrol vehicles.

You may notice an officer out on bicycle patrol. We recently added that as a patrol option for our officers. The bicycle has been a great way to get out of the vehicle and interact with the public. In addition to the positive interactions with the public the bicycle has also proven to be a proactive way of finding children out past curfew!

Traffic Enforcement

Traffic safety is something we take seriously.  We are always looking at ways of making Otsego a safer place for our citizens and their children.  We have a movable radar trailer that we place in areas of concern throughout the year.  If you would like to request the trailer be placed in a certain area to raise speed/speed limit awareness please contact us.

Services Offered

  • House Watch Checks

If you plan on being out of town for a few days or more feel free to complete a House Watch Check request.  On a daily basis we will walk the perimeter of your residence to ensure the doors are locked and nothing looks out of the ordinary.  If there’s a problem we will contact you.  In case of a problem it’s much better to find out right away rather than finding out days/weeks after the fact.  Click here if you would like to request a house watch check.

  • Pistol Purchase Permits

If you live in Otsego City you can get your pistol purchase permit from us! Office hours are Monday through Friday 8am-5pm excluding holidays. After making your purchase Otsego City residents can turn your permits back into us during normal business hours. As a friendly reminder Michigan law requires gun registrations to be turned in within 10 days.

  • Car Seat Inspections

Otsego City now has a certified car seat technician!  Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children ages 3-14.  Local statistics show that as many as 90% of car seats are incorrectly used/installed.  Click here if you would like to setup a car seat inspection.

  • Bicycle Registrations

While bicycle thefts can largely be avoided by locking them up even the best of us can forget.  While bicycles aren’t required to be registered with the police department you can register them with us.  In doing so we will document the bicycle’s serial number which will assist us in locating and returning your property if it’s ever stolen.  All too often located bicycles can’t be returned because the person it was taken from didn’t know the serial number on the bicycle when it was stolen.

  • Medication Drop Off

In an effort to keep unused/unneeded medications from laying around and ending up in the wrong hands we now offer a prescription medication drop off box.  Just bring the prescriptions to the police department and drop them in the box.  No need to fill out any paperwork.  While we do have a sharps container located by the drop off box please refrain from depositing needles and liquids in the drop off box.
