The City has contacted the residences that have in the past had a problem with freezing water, because of shallow water services, and advised them to run a pencil stream of water.
The frost is currently at 20 inches. Most freezing is due to pipes being on an outside wall or improper insulation of inside pipes. The City is not responsible for water freezing inside of the home. If you experience discoloration or low water pressure, you should run a pencil stream of water, to prevent freezing inside of your home.
Please call City Hall, and we will be glad to answer any questions that you may have. For those of you that have been notified to run your water, Please DO NOT STOP running your water until you have been notified by City Hall. Warm weather actually drives the frost further into the ground.
If you have questions, please call City Hall at 692-3391.

Please continue to check our City website and Facebook, and the Shopper’s Guide for updates.
The City of Otsego Water Department will flush all fire hydrants October 2nd through October 13th. This is done to remove any stale water that may be in the system and insure that the fire hydrants are working properly.
You may experience some reduced pressure and discoloration during this process. If discoloration occurs, let your water run until it clears.
